My Creative Space

Last week another of my friends had a baby boy, so in typical fashion I had to rush and make up a present for the baby. You would think that 9 months would be enough warning but no I have to wait until the baby is born to get my act together.
I found this awesome "FABULOUS FIFTIES" Bib pattern at Nicole Mallalieu Design it is a bit different to your standard baby bib and I really like the retro styling.

Pipi's Kitchen Bib - BackTop

Pipi's Kitchen Bib - Front

For the main fabric I used Pipi's Kitchen by Kokka, it is cute enough to be a baby fabric and the colouring could be used for either a boy or a girl. For the lining I used a plain white cotton and made the binding from a plain red cotton. At 25mm the binding is slightly wider than the 18mm one specified on the pattern but I don't think it makes too much of a difference. Once again I used my nifty bias binding foot to apply the binding, the curves were a little tricky but with only a small amount of unpicking I got the binding on fairly evenly. Over all this is a very simple pattern to put together and didn't take too long to sew, the most time consuming part was making up the bias binding.

Fabric Friday: Teeny Tiny Zoo

Teeny Tiny Zoo - 02

Alexander Henry's Teeny Tiny Zoo 100% cotton fabric features the cutest little elephants, crocodiles, giraffes, rhinos, hippos and tigers you will ever see. This magnificent menagerie is made up in soft pastel blues and greens, retro burnt orange and cream on a chocolate background.

The animals range from 1.5cm - 3.5cm in size. Print would be suitable for both boys and girls clothing and accessories.

My Creative Space

We are still busy preparing for the Marky Markets which we will be attending this Sunday 15th August at the Hi-Fi bar in West End.

I  made a fabric rossette for the Skull Pinstripe tote bag from last week, I'm happy to say that it jazzes up the bag just enough.

A sneaky peek at the two Lolita half aprons that I made. They use the same pattern as the Bunny Goth Apron. I have made one using my Pink Pinstripe Skull fabric and the other using Circus At Night by Cosmo Textiles. Both of these aprons will be for sale on Sunday as will the pattern,  unfortunately we haven't received the Bunny Goth Apron Fabric yet. It has shipped and we should have it by the end of next week just in time for the Valley Laneway Markets :)

My Creative Space

There is a lot of creating and sewing going on at Bunny Craft Central. Cloud has been busying herself handsewing Mini Squee Bunnies for Marky Markets. Meanwhile, I've been working on a new tote bag using Voodoo Rabbit Pink Pinstriped Skulls fabric. I had it printed at Spoonflower on their cotton linen canvas especially for this project.

The bag is made. Now I just need to bling it up. I'm thinking about making a black fabric rosette with either a huge silver button or a Pink Pinstripe Skull fabric covered button in the middle. What do you think?

Wednesday Wishlist

Do you ever feel that time is flying by too fast and you wish you could either slow it down or get more? I asked Cloud what she was wishing for today and she said, "More time!". I'm not quite sure is this is going to help her but I really like these time-related items found on Etsy :)

Southbank Market Roundup

We had a great day at the Southbank Markets on Sunday. The last time we attended these markets it was 34°C, humid and stormy - nobody is interested in shopping in weather like that! This time the weather was lovely - not too cold but not too warm. There were some fabric fiends out and about and we got to meet some wonderful people :)

Southbank Market Stall 03

I think that our stall set up is getting better with each market we attend. Cloud's fabric canvasses brightened up the walls of the marquee quite well and her bunny toys were also a big draw (even if they did keep falling over). We had all of our fabric on display in fat quarters or the half size bolts (in the black shelves) around the stall.

Southbank Market Stall 06

The full sized bolts were stashed away under the tables in case people wanted extra lengths and to replace the stock that sold. We sold out of the Aunt Lindy's Paper Doll Large Panel and we also sold out of some of the fabric that we brought back from Japan. We always recommend that if you see a fabric you like grab it because it may not be there when you try to come back for it later!

Next is the Marky Markets at West End on August 15th, we will be featuring our handmade items at this event so we will be busy sewing up a storm for the next 2 weeks. There will be lots of Mini Squees, Giant Squee will make his debut, aprons, our original Voodoo Rabbit fabric designs, cushions, bunting, tote bags and handmade buttons. We will also be able to take orders on the day for cut fabric lengths. Hope to see you there!
