New in Store - 21st December 2014

This week I received a box of Alexander Henry fabrics, most of which are restocks of some old favourites. Including the every popular Zombies and Midnight Snack.
A few other new fabrics have also arrived but since the new website will be going live in the next day or so I will hold off on listing them until next week. If you go to our website and it doesn't appear, you may need to refresh the page or delete your browser history.

New in Store - 14th December 2014

I was hoping to have a new website up and running by now but since that doesn't look like it is going to happen soon I thought I had better list some of the new fabrics up on our current site. I listed a whopping 44 fabrics this week from all of your favourite designers including Riley Blake Designs, Kokka, Michael Miller, Timeless Treasures and of course Alexander Henry. There are so many that I have had to divide this post up into several images montages, enjoy :)

My Creative Space...

This week we are starting preparations for the Kustom Kraft market on May 23rd. It will only be the third market that we have done and we thought that it was time to spruce up the stall a bit.

First up some red and black felt bunting for along the front of the table.

Ironing bias binding, the epitome of excitement and burnt fingers

Pinned up and ready for sewing

Even though we predominantly sell fabric and buttons at our stall it is always nice to round things out with a few handmade items.

Some Voodoo Rabbit skins ready for Cloud to put together this weekend
(told you I would be cracking the whip)

Don't forget to check out Kirsty's blog for some more creative spaces.

New in Store - 2 Novemebr 2014

The big news this week is that we have received some DC comics Girl Power fabric from Camelot Fabrics. This range features Batgirl, Wonder Woman and Supergirl and is already proving super :) popular. We also have a couple of new retro comic book Star Wars prints.
There seems to be a plethora of people wanting to recover lampshades these days and to this end we are now officially stocking Adhesive Lampshade Paper. This paper comes in a 2m roll and is 48cm wide. It has adhesive on one side so your fabric sticks straight to it, all you have to do is roll it around your lampshade wires and glue it in place.

New in Store - 19 October 2014

It has been a busy few weeks with the Brisbane Craft and Quilt Show. I think we are finally back to normal so that means I have time to start listing new fabric on the website. This week we have mostly new Alexander Henry fabrics from the Nicole's Prints, Folklorico, Santa Fe and Halloween collections. We have two fantastic new Alice in Wonderland designs from Cosmo textiles in Japan which were very popular at the Craft Fair. In fact there is less than half a bolt of each remaining. Last but not least is a horror movie blood splatter print from Robert Kaufman.

Pattern Test Drive - The Gathered Sling by Jen Fox Studios

I actually made this sample a month or two ago so I thought it was high time that I blogged about it. The pattern is The Gathered Sling Bag from a new pattern designer that we are stocking called Jen Fox Studios. This bag is designed with the beginner sewist in mind so it is a fairly simple pattern without curves or zippers. The finished bag is a good size at approximately 29cm (11-1/2") wide x 23cm (9") High (excluding the strap) x 8cm (3") deep. You can fit your wallet, phone, keys and a few other items inside without it getting too full.

The hardest part of sewing a bag is choosing the fabric but I am quite happy with the combination of the tropical flamingo fabric with the fern green contrast. You could also make the bag out of one fabric if you desired.

Don't you think the greens and pinks on the striped lining match the outer fabrics so well? I always use a lightish fabric for the lining of my bags as there is nothing worse than not being able to find your keys in a black lining. I have only sewn in one lining pocket but the pattern gives instructions for two.

Interfacing and Hardware
The pattern has minimal hardware in the form of a magnetic catch, I've used a 14mm one but I think you could use whatever size you have available without too much trouble. The strap included with the pattern is a simple shoulder strap. If you wanted you could also jazz it up with the use of o-rings, oblong rings or make it an adjustable cross-body strap with a tri-glide.

Both the outside and lining of the bag are interfaced and I have used our Medium Weight Woven Fusible Interfacing. The combination of the interfacing and the gathers give the finished bag enough structure to stand up on its own without being too stiff.

If you would like to recreate this bag here are the materials that have been used:
♥ 30cm (1/3yd) Muslin (I just used leftovers of the lining fabric but you could use calico or any fabric as it is only used as the supporting fabric for the gathers so you won't see it.)
